Watching the news these days can be emotionally draining. The headline stories are usually about crime, major accidents, natural disasters, epidemics, or terrorism attacks. If there is a breaking news story, chances are it probably isn’t good news. I live in a major metropolitan area, so unfortunately the majority of the news is quite dismal. I have learned to brace myself as I watch the succession of stories just so I can be a well-informed citizen. I worked in a television newsroom for several years, so I know that when you do see a “good news” story, it’s often saved for a “slow” news day.

At the end of the week, just when I think I’ve just about had it with watching news, I hear Scott Pelley announce that “On the Road” with Steve Hartman will be coming up next. It is usually the last segment on the CBS Evening News on Fridays. This is where I can count on watching an inspirational  “good news” story. I have shed happy tears countless times watching people from all walks of life, young and old, show kindness and compassion towards one another. Watching these segments helps to remind me that good things are happening in the world, they just may not make the top news stories.

What are some of your favorite “good news” shows? I will include them in my next post.

Thank you for visiting.

Warmly,

Sandra
